I’m Dutch by heritage, raised in a Dutch immigrant dairy community in Los Angeles, in a home filled with Dutch paintings. My art is deeply influenced by the bold, vibrant designs and rhythms of Africa, where I spent much of my adult life immersed in village life—learning the local language and culture. The primal earthiness, joyful celebrations, and warmth of the people are rooted in my spirit and shine through in my work. My international work in trauma healing taught me how art can help us uncover what lies within—not only to heal from inner wounds but also to flourish. My paintings brighten my days, encourage me, and bring me joy! I’ve been fortunate to learn from incredible art professors, and through exploration and experimentation, I continue to discover my own voice. My work has appeared in juried shows, galleries, and publications. For me, art is a never-ending adventure—a journey of uncovering the universe within allowing me to make my valuable, unique contribution.
About the Demonstration
I love paint that’s as thick as frosting, as smooth as fondant, with crisp and clean lines at the seams where vibrant colors meet. My abstract geometric designs remind me of the bold fabric prints of Africa, where I spent much of my adult life, and the quilts I’ve made and cherished. These bold patterns catch my eye, capture my imagination, and bring me so much happiness. After much experimentation with cold wax and oil paint, I’ve developed a technique that balances thick, luscious paint with smooth surfaces and sharp, clean edges. Join me for a live demo where I’ll share my process—from mixing and applying rich layers of paint to creating those crisp seams that make the colors pop. Whether you’re an artist or simply curious, come see how these dynamic compositions come to life!
